We are so glad and proud to share the great news that our newest member of the Padilla household has made his appearance after months of excited expectations! MiguelAngelo, was born on Wednesday July 14 @ 12:47 pm…and he tipped the digital scales at 6 lbs and 9 ozs, with an overall length of 18”. Quite a bit of personality wrapped into such a small package but he certainly is a keeper.

So many family and friends have seen his cute face on FaceBook and e-mail postings but we share a few pictures here with our extended family as well. We look forward to many more wonderful years with each of our children, what a blessing little ones bring into our lives…hugs yours today!

We are excited and practically beside ourselves in sharing the good news that Padilla of San Felipe has a new member of its family business that will debut during Red Earth 2010!

“KATISHTYA TRAILS MERCANTILE, LLC”.

This new expansion of Padilla, brings the opportunity to offer a wider array of not only Padilla designed products and merchandise, but it also opens possibilities to present the selection of home décor & fashions, jewelry, arts & crafts supplies, and our new feature “Mobile Packing & Framing”.

As an artist who spends a lot of time on the road and away from the shop/studio, we realized that we weren’t the only ones in that situation. So we packed our portable framing equipment into the trailer, and brought along the ability to offer packaging to buyers and artists at these shows and festivals.

With that approach, we continue to make our services available to our artist friends on the road, and to allow buyers to purchase with confidence as we provide the means to safeguard their newly acquired treasures with boxes, cartons, and packaging materials on site!

You are welcome to stop by our new booth and see what we mean by “on-site services”. An array of box sizes and prices to fit almost every situation, and if we don’t have it, we can build it.

Remember that name! “KATISHTYA TRAILS MERCANTILE”

Keep checking with our website for updates and specials, unless you would prefer to be notified by e-mail, you can sign onto our e-mail announcements.

Remember you can reach Padilla of San Felipe @ (405) 445-7498. Leave your name, number and message so we would be informed of your call or order whether we are in the studio or on the road doing shows.

Padilla of San Felipe Art & Framing

Up until recently, preoccupation with settling into our new place of residence was foremost. Now with most of that taken care of, we can get on with the duties of “re-opening” art framing operations from a home-based business setting. It’s taken quite some time to replace mostly everything we once owned for that type of business, but come in and take a look-see.

Re-tooled and Re-schooled

After our nine year hiatus from the art markets, we realized a need to re-configure our business plan as we made-over our image. Since re-emerging into a newer fast-changing market it is advantageous to start-up from square one. The standard for quality that is our impetus never changes but the equipment, methods, and technologies to sustain, even to improve on that standard, has gone through numerous renovations…requiring some extensive home-schooling. Hours, weeks, even months spent researching websites, downloading resources, and experimenting with those applications required repetitive frustrations before we could realize significant improvements. It is our endeavor to be open-minded about necessary technology yet mindful towards being resolute for whom “Padilla of San Felipe” is in 2009 and beyond.

Increased Partnerships for Emerging Artists

For those who have kept up with Padilla, the artist, have known his creative family to include his daughters: Victoria, Elizabeth, Sharon Rae, and Sara Don Padilla. While these young women continue to be creative they have not participated in the various art show venues through the recent years, however… Through Padilla’s tribal enrichment enrollment program (more children born into the immediate family) therein continues the artistic tradition that admirers and collectors look for from this talented family. The new emerging artists in the current Padilla household include: Gabrielle Aja, Raphael Asa, and Manny, all creative and productive just like their older brother and sisters. Keep your eyes and ears open to our website for exhibitions featuring these amazing artists in the next few months and years to come.

Well it’s not exactly live but the first day of the Red Earth Festival was a blast! It has been a long nine years since I last participated as an exhibitor so I went with no expectations, just wanted to soak in the atmosphere of wall to wall people.

The Longest Parade I’ve Never Seen…

Gabrielle and the girls, Aysia & Brianna, were part of the celebrity lineup in the parade that jump-started the Festival. I had it all planned out, drop off the family at 9 am and run a couple of errands before the 11 o’clock official opening of the exhibit area. Everything was going smoothly until I returned to the Cox Convention Center, and then I found out I couldn’t get into the building…all the streets were blocked off. So I drove around until the parade ended (about 11:30) but the streets remained blocked off for at least 30 more minutes which meant I didn’t actually make it to my booth until after 12 noon.

“How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You…”

A host of new artists that I’m meeting for the first time are gracing the festival but the sea of familiar faces are warming my heart to no end. It is so wonderful to see some of those beautiful smiles, shaking hands, embracing warm hugs, and even stealing a few kisses has made this “apple pie” an ala mode. I cannot even begin to list some of those people (I wouldn’t be able to finish this blog in time to attend the rest of the festival). Come on out and see for your self! Don’t forget to print your Padilla of San Felipe coupon for a free print at Red Earth (see us at booth # 816).

A Live Demonstration:

Saturday will tend to be the busiest day at the festival but I always enjoy allowing guests view me creating the newest piece. I have prepared to paint, construct and finish a 4’x6’ panel with added pieces by Sunday afternoon. They may think I may be doing it for their pleasure but actually I’m working on a piece for the Art In Living Art Walk at Tahlequah next weekend. Hint: I’ll be displaying my artwork at the Iguana Café, 500 N. Muskogee Ave, come for a nice repast and conversation with a delicious ambience setting.

Mark those calendars today for one of the most exciting Native American Festivals in North America, and it all happens right downtown in Oklahoma City. We are excited about it more so this year because Fernando will debut his newest original works at the Art Show, and, Gabrielle will make her appearance as the reigning Little Miss Oklahoma City during the Red Earth Parade as well as with the multitude of dancers & singers during Grand Entry for the dance competition. You don’t want to miss one day of this tremendous gathering, all activities are indoors except for the parade which winds its way through the business section of downtown Oklahoma City. For more information than I can give you please go to www.redearth.org and download on the latest news pertaining to this years’ festival. We have been connected to this outstanding organization since the first year 1986. We are looking forward with great anticipation to be featured with so many other outstanding Native Americans, whose talents and gifts will be shared with every guest and visitor.
There is a new business line just for Padilla of San Felipe: (405) 445-7498. This number will connect to our internet system so that we would be informed of all calls or orders whether we are at home or on the road doing shows.

The Changing Winds Cultural Society sponsors the annual Miss Indian, Jr. Miss and Little Miss Indian Oklahoma City Competition since 1992. Shirley Wapskineh adamantly insists that it has never been a beauty pageant; its intent is to show the potential talent of young ladies and girls in their Native American culture & attire. Applicants from around the Oklahoma City metro and communities are invited to participate in several categories pertaining to cultural talents. And upon winning as an Oklahoma City Princess, are required to be the exemplary representative of Native American excellence and grace to events Indian and non-Indian.

We have allowed two of our daughters to take part in this particular event. Sara Don was a contestant twice; coming in Second Runner Up in the Little Miss 1998.

This was Gabrielle’s first time as a Little Miss contestant. She really put a lot of effort into learning her Tribal Greeting in Chickasaw. Since she represents several tribal groups: Chickasaw, San Felipe Pueblo, and Navajo, she’s seems to grasp the differences. Admittedly, we have not attended significant number of Pow-Wow events for our children to understand everything, but they are all drawn to the striking colorfulness, attracted by the enticing music and festive dancing. Even our four year old has been speaking Chickasaw tribal greetings spontaneously.

We want to express our thanks to the entire Committee members of Changing Winds Cultural Society for their devotion to keep the mission intent focused and exciting. We are looking forward to more adventures and opportunities through Gabrielle’s selection as Little Miss Indian Oklahoma City 2009-2010.

Keep your eyes and ears open to more postings of both Fernando and Gabrielle’s appearances and events through this website as we continue to improve the communication avenues for these two gifted individuals.

It’s been awhile since my last blog post so I thought an update would be nice. The art related events for us have slowed down some although I know there are plenty of events out there. However, last evening we had been invited to speak and share with the Oklahoma City Indian Art Club, the event took place at the Rink Art Gallery in Bethany, host was Bruce Saunkeah. This amazing group hosts a monthly gathering of art patrons, collectors, and supporters within a different location setting and with various speakers and demonstrators of Native American cultures. I first met this group at Barry Turners house in 1985, and without the friendships and support from that integral circle I probably would not have accelerated in recognition for my artistic endeavors as I have. So an opportunity to share my newest endeavors with them was an important reconnecting feature, the invitation to meet and speak with them was heartily accepted back in October 2008. Stefani and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
At least three more Art in Worship possibilities are in the works, although Eufaula 1st UMC definitely wants a Pentecost Sunday event, May 31, 2009.
