Padilla of San Felipe Art & Framing

Up until recently, preoccupation with settling into our new place of residence was foremost. Now with most of that taken care of, we can get on with the duties of “re-opening” art framing operations from a home-based business setting. It’s taken quite some time to replace mostly everything we once owned for that type of business, but come in and take a look-see.

Re-tooled and Re-schooled

After our nine year hiatus from the art markets, we realized a need to re-configure our business plan as we made-over our image. Since re-emerging into a newer fast-changing market it is advantageous to start-up from square one. The standard for quality that is our impetus never changes but the equipment, methods, and technologies to sustain, even to improve on that standard, has gone through numerous renovations…requiring some extensive home-schooling. Hours, weeks, even months spent researching websites, downloading resources, and experimenting with those applications required repetitive frustrations before we could realize significant improvements. It is our endeavor to be open-minded about necessary technology yet mindful towards being resolute for whom “Padilla of San Felipe” is in 2009 and beyond.

Increased Partnerships for Emerging Artists

For those who have kept up with Padilla, the artist, have known his creative family to include his daughters: Victoria, Elizabeth, Sharon Rae, and Sara Don Padilla. While these young women continue to be creative they have not participated in the various art show venues through the recent years, however… Through Padilla’s tribal enrichment enrollment program (more children born into the immediate family) therein continues the artistic tradition that admirers and collectors look for from this talented family. The new emerging artists in the current Padilla household include: Gabrielle Aja, Raphael Asa, and Manny, all creative and productive just like their older brother and sisters. Keep your eyes and ears open to our website for exhibitions featuring these amazing artists in the next few months and years to come.

Well, being the parents of Little Miss Indian Oklahoma City has proved to be quite a bit more time consuming that we would have thought!   But we are so proud of her.  Here is a video of the girls performing Indian sign language to “God Bless the USA” while the ROTC lowers the American Flag, Sunday September 27, 2009.

Reflections on Pentecost Sunday at Eufaula FUMC May 31, 2009

eufaula ule5lsr3 Reflections on Pentecost Sunday at Eufaula FUMC May 31, 2009What an amazing weekend in Eufaula, it was a huge blessing to get out of the city to enjoy peaceful moments by the lake and with townsfolk who were friendly and very hospitable. Nice article in the local paper.

Open Hearts, Open Arms, Open Doors

Our heartfelt thanks to Joe and Lynn Carrier who opened doors and let us in, they received a five star award from me for the lavish accommodations. They took wonderful care of my family while I busied myself with final details on the panels. This was the first time Stefani and the children experienced a salt water swimming pool, no chemicals and no burning eyes. Joe’s willingness to indulge me time to pray at the waters edge, to touch the cool water and remember God’s life giving source made my day.

Testing 1, 2, 3…

Huge THANKS to Eric Breon, sound technician who made transitions from one segment to the other seamless and professional. We had no time to rehearse beforehand, everything was do or die, live and in person but he handled his part like we had done it numerous times. I was the one lost and in the dark, literally, Pastor John Breon had turned out the lights too soon. I ended up having to read narration blindly, my fault for not thinking ahead of time to place a reading light on the podium.

If Anything Else Could Go Wrong…

Unfortunately I did not preview the digital recorder beforehand either for lighting compensation, so the performance can be heard…but hardly seen, we will not be able to post this event on our website. And maybe it was meant to be seen by Eufaula only, who really knows. In my excitement of doing the event and wrapping it all up, I also forgot to take any photos of the completed panels or of anyone else for that matter. While we were driving back out towards the highway I wondered if people would really believe me when I tell them we went to Eufaula on Pentecost Sunday but that only the Spirit knows what we did there?

May God Bless and Keep You…

Thank You’s to Hal Kirkpatrick, Rev. John Breon, the fabulous congregation & Choir, the Nursery staff, and Mike Kirkpatrick Family. May God richly and generously bless you all a hundredfold for the outpouring of God’s favor towards the Padilla Family, we will not easily forget you in our prayers.

We hope to come out very soon and get post photography of the assembled panels to share on the website, pray it happens.

Pentecost Sunday at Eufaula FUMC May 31, 2009

Friday, May 29th, 2009

pentecost247 Pentecost Sunday at Eufaula FUMC May 31, 2009As the day of Pentecost approaches, we reflect. The geographical and economic changes to our lives became the physical evidence that we are moved in multitude of ways that keep us holding on to the promises of God all the more.

The challenge of facing the unknown is for the strengthening of our hope in God’s grace; trusting in the power of His word through the life changing resurrection of Jesus Christ. What scriptures says about the working of Christ takes on new deeper meanings when the Incarnate Christ comes alive through our struggles with the everyday. The importance of the Holy Spirit in my self-conscious has taken on greater significance as I prepare myself for sharing this coming Sunday at Eufaula United Methodist Church with Rev. John Breon and the “unsuspecting” congregation. I say unsuspecting because they have no idea what’s going to happen to all of us this Pentecost. Actually, I hope we get blown out of our pews.

That the Holy Spirit would come alive in the most visually stimulating and intimate worship experience is all I ask for:

I believe that we completely underestimate the power of God’s word when we year after year read and hear the “same old” story told the same old humdrum way. Sometimes the public reading of scripture lacks the intimacy to be personal for the liturgist, not to mention the lethargic parishioners’ head-bobbing in the pews. I’ve found making it intimately personal for me makes the hearing of it a surprise that catches the listeners attention. Inserting my own name, the name of the church, or the name of our town in place of those listed in verses can be pleasing to the ear. Being courageous with the imagination that God blessed our minds with could stretch out “that old time religion” in ways that we would have never thought possible, or dared plausible. Something has to push us to that point of experiencing the drastic unknown especially when it comes to our church participation because if left up to us, we would rather not take the trouble to stir ourselves up out of our comfortable predictable religiosity. Awareness of God has diminished so much we think everything is alright between the Creator and creation. We need an experience of going back to that very first day of Pentecost more than once a year, when the Holy Spirit thundered and crackled out of heavens glory and exploded on that mild mannered, well meaning, and fearful congregation of missional do-gooders.

Well, that may not happen to us on Sunday but what if…

Letter to Our Friends

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009
Gabrielle, Aysia, and Bri

Gabrielle, Aysia, and Bri

Dear Friends, Collectors & Fellow Art Lovers:

Red Earth is just around the next weekend “corner” and we are getting excited, or is that anxious? Lots of planning and gathering still left to do and the clock is ticking down. Have you gone to www.redearth.org for information about the festival and ticket prices? There’s still time for you to do that.

Our participation as exhibitors after eight years away is sort of frightening because I feel like I’m still not up to par with my artistic expectations. I’m excited that Gabrielle will be participating through the Dance arena by virtue of her representing Changing Winds Cultural Society as Little Miss Indian Oklahoma City, along with Aysia Kemble (Junior Miss Indian OKC) and Brianna Chavez (Miss Indian OKC).

As a special offer to you our friends and supporters, we have a coupon you can download and print here.  Bring it when you come by our booth during the Red Earth Festival, and you will receive one free print from a select number of prints in our print bin. Bring a friend and they will receive 25% off any matting and framing from Padilla of San Felipe for any artwork (from any artist) that they purchase at this years’ Festival.

Hope to see you there June 5, 6, and 7 in downtown Oklahoma City, thanks again for being a loyal friend and collector.

Your Friends,

Fernando & Stefani Padilla.

Gabrielle Aja Padilla Crowned Little Miss Indian Oklahoma City 2009-2010

Gabrielle Padilla - Little Miss Indian OKC 2009

Gabrielle Aja Padilla was selected by a distinguished panel of Native American notables as Little Miss Indian Oklahoma City 2009-2010 during the annual competition sponsored by Changing Winds Cultural Society. The selection process involves letters of recommendations, personal interviews, traditional talent, and tribal attire for young girls in three age groups.  A spectacular gala event was held on the campus of Destiny Center in Del City on Friday evening March 27th.

Gabrielle is 8 years old and in the 3rd grade with Home School studies.  She is an enrolled citizen of the Chickasaw Nation, and has cultural heritage traditions with the San Felipe Pueblo and Navajo tribes. She and her family currently attend Bethany First Church of the Nazarene where she participates in Children’s Choir, Caravans, Bible Quiz Team, and performs in drama presentations for the church. In her spare time she loves ceramics, and creating artworks in various mediums and applications. She is very adept at surfing the web, downloading information and images for her projects in Photo Shop. And above all she enjoys playing and watching movies on DVD’s with her little brothers.

She is the daughter of Fernando Padilla, Jr. (San Felipe Pueblo/Navajo) and Stefani Adcock Boyle Padilla (Chickasaw), granddaughter of Marie D. Setalla (Navajo Nation), the late Fernando Padilla, Sr. (San Felipe Pueblo) and the late Alberta J. Adcock (Chickasaw). Her Poppa and Grammy, Richard and Shirley Boyle of Sky Valley, Georgia are extremely proud of their granddaughter as well. She is the Great-Granddaughter of Original Chickasaw Enrollee Inez Thompson.

During the competition presentations Gabrielle won the trophy for Best Tribal Greeting in her age group.  For her introduction greeting she spoke Chickasaw with translation into English for the non-Chickasaws in the audience.  For this, Gabrielle wishes to thank Chickasaw Language Specialist Joann Ellis for her assistance and materials.  Gabrielle also placed first for Best Tribal Dress Description in the Little Miss category.  Gabrielle proudly shared her multi- cultural heritage(s) with the judges and audience by wearing a traditional Pueblo dress, handed down from her sister Sara Padilla, for this part of the competition. Thank you to Elizabeth Padilla for technical advice and assistance. Gabrielle was cheered on by her parents, sister, Elizabeth Padilla, brothers Raphael and Emmanuel, her nephew Angel, and many special friends and acquaintances.
